>Artistshouse Interview with Bob Jamieson

>Bob Jamieson is a mogul in the music industry, and most recently, Chairman of BMG North America. He has made a great impact on the music industry by restoring the RCA Music Group, which experienced 2o years of decline. Mr. Jamieson’s interview discusses the dynamics of the music industry. His background in marketing and management allowed him to learn the business from an internship standpoint, understanding each entity of the music industry before being employed full-time. His interview talked about understanding finance, having a creative mind, and managing artist.

Mr. Jamieson mentions that in this industry, understanding the discipline of finance is a unique talent within any realm of entertainment. I agree, being disciplined with the finances of a company allows for growth within this industry. He discusses the strategies marketing to make a project worthwhile. Personally, his understanding of what it takes to make a business grow engages me to focus on my target market.

In reference to managing artist, Mr. Jamieson talked about what makes a great manager. If representing an artist, a manager should have the highest integrity, and have the ability to develop the artist image and handle business ventures professionally. When it comes to managing an artist successfully, having these characteristics can make or break the manager. A manager has to possess the ability to make wise decisions for the artist being represented.

I enjoyed this interview by Mr. Jamieson because it can be applied to King Management. The knowledge of finance, marketing, and managing artists are relevant to my endeavor. These aspects of the industry are what I consider to make or break you, because you have to understand finance, know how to effectively market yourself in today’s world, and be able to manage with an honest approach. This is information that could enhance a business if used effectively. Mr. Jamieson gives a first hand account as to what it takes to be successful in the fast paced entertainment industry.
